If you’re bringing the kids on your summer vacation to DC, we’ve got you covered with tons of options. Whether you’re on the look-out for museums, want to explore neighborhoods, or just looking to stay active, you’ll find plenty of fun activities for the whole family to enjoy. Here are our top five recommendations for spending a day with the kids in Washington this summer.
You can’t miss out on DC’s fantastic array of galleries, ranging from the National Museum of African-American History and Culture to the American Art Museum. There are plenty of options and activities aimed at the younger ones, so you’ll find lots to keep the kids entertained.
Help your kids beat the summertime heat with a trip to one of Washington’s spray parks. Pack a bathing suit and let your kids play in the fountains in Fairfax and Canal Park, where they can walk through the jets and splash around.
If the kids seem like they’re getting antsy let them get out some of their energy by renting a few bikes or just take a cycling tour of the city to enjoy the fresh air and take in the summer weather while also getting in some exercise. We recommend renting bikes from somewhere central, like Union Station’s Bikestation.
Take a neighborhood tour of DC areas like Bloomingdale, Logan Circle, or U Street with the little ones. Enjoy walking around and exploring, then end the adventure with a treat like dessert at H Street’s Frenchie’s.
If the heat and hunger start getting to you, stop for a cone at any of DC’s incredible ice cream shops and gelaterias. Our favorites in town include Dolcezza and Pitango Gelato, where you can find delicious summertime flavors for the kids and adults both.
